The Amanda has Landed!
A generator donated by George Latka and his partner Frank Rathmann of Latmann Equipment Ltd is now on site. On July 26, 2011 it was transported through the mountains from Calmar Alberta by a Dodge one ton truck. It is a 50 kw unit to be used until the site has a hydro line in, and after that as a back-up generator. It is worth approximately $50,000 to the Society.
It was definitely a family affair with George and Sandy, George's son Edward doing the hauling, the Lewis clan, and the entire Rathmann family, Frank, Sandy and their five children on site. Many others helped "make this happen"; the Latka's, the Rathmann's, the Lewis's, the Morgenstern's, Chuck Edwards and the much appreciated Warren Lee, who brought the quipment to enable the safe "delivery".
George donated the generator in honour of his granddaughter, Amanda Lewis who is a senior Board member of the Society. He has named the generator after her, and it bears a plate with her name and personal logo.
The first cabin for Agur Lake Camp is taking shape thanks to the students in Okanagan College's Residential Construction program. This is happening as the result of a partnership between Agur Lake Camp Society, Okanagan College, School District 67 Okanagan Skaha and C.M. Edwards Construction.

The Residential Construction program is one of the College's most hands-on programs, providing an opportunity for students to build a home from the ground up. Students who complete the program not only have professional work experience on their resume, they also receive technical training credit for Level One Carpentry and may become certified as a Residential Construction Framing Technician. Through contributing their time to the building of the first cabin, they advance their own education and provide valuable service in the building of Agur Lake Camp.

Construction of the cabin is now taking place at the Penticton campus. The students are building the structure on the grounds of the campus – it will be moved to Agur Lake for final assembly later this summer. Support pillars are positioned so the cabin floor can be built on top of them. This allows space for a truck to back in under the floor when it is time to move the building. The cabin will be built by assembling two modules to the lock-up stage and then trucking them to Agur Lake Camp where they will be joined together as they are placed on the cabin's foundation.
The Agur Lake Camp Society has long range plans for five cabins to be built on the site and hopes that this first cabin will be ready for use in the summer of 2012.
On July 12, 2011 the first cabin for Agur Lake Camp was moved from its construction site on the Okanagan College campus to its permanent home at Agur Lake. Students in Okanagan College's Residential Construction program have built the cabin and laid its foundation.
Ray's Towing of Penticton is doing the move. Partners in this project are Agur Lake Camp Society, Okanagan College, School District 67 Okanagan Skaha and C.M. Edwards Construction.
