Robin Agur Remembered

Agur Lake Camp owes its very existence to Robin Agur and with Robin's passing, has lost a friend, ardent supporter and visionary.  In 2007, Robin Agur responded to an advertisement in the local newspaper. The ad, placed by Bonnar Dowler, the founder of Agur Lake Camp, sought someone who would be willing to donate land for a camp which would be surrounded by nature. A place for those with disabilities and their families to come and temporarily escape their daily struggles and possibly meet others with similar challenges.

Shortly after the ad was published, Bonnar received a call from Robin. Robin stated, "You talk, and I'll listen." He listened attentively to Bonnar's vision, promising to discuss it with his family and get back to him.

Early the next morning, Bonnar's phone rang again. It was Robin Agur, saying he wanted to pick him up to show Bonnar a piece of land just south of his family's century-old log cabin on the picturesque fishing lake, Agur Lake. That day marked the beginning of a new friendship and partnership that helped shape the camp into what it is today.

We have an immense amount of pride and gratitude in having been a part of Robin's life and will continue to honour his legacy. His generosity and vision have left an indelible mark on our community and the lives of countless people, inspiring many to contribute towards a common goal of creating an accessible and inclusive environment for all.

As we move forward, we remain committed to upholding the values Robin cherished. The camp stands as a testament to the power of shared dreams and the impact of one person's willingness to listen and give.  All who are involved with Agur Lake Camp as volunteers, board members and staff send their deepest condolences to Robin's family.
