Sue Filek - President
Sue grew up in Summerland and lived here most of her life. She enjoyed a 33 year career as an Occupational Therapist working in private practice and in employee health and safety for Interior Health. She is married with 3 grown children, is recently retired and loves gardening, running/biking/hiking, and traveling. She has volunteered extensively within the community in the past, joined the ALC board in 2019 and is eager to contribute to such an important community resource. |
Jim Ongena - Vice President
Jim is not a man who sets limits or lives by convention. Whether he is soaring above Aspen in his paraglider, kayaking down a wild river in Canada, ski mountaineering in the Alps, or climbing a rock face in California, Jim is living his message. He believes that risk taking and success are linked and that anyone can achieve levels of success far beyond their perceived limits. Jim lives with his wife Toni, in Summerland. Jim is also an avid golfer and loves to sit around the fire or be onstage with his guitar. |
Toni Clark, Treasurer/Volunteer Bookkeeper
Toni has lived in the Okanagan Valley since 1964, moving between communities but not wanting to leave. She is happiest enjoying many of the outdoor activities possible in this four-season environment. Her education in Recreation Management allowed her to focus primarily working for Non-Profits, and when not working for them, volunteering in some capacity. Agur Lake Camp Society embodies everything she wants to support, and provides exactly the blend of a challenge and opportunity she enjoys. |
Pat Cook - Secretary
Pat moved to Summerland from Port Moody in 2003, with her husband and three sons. She calls Summerland home now. Pat spent 25 years as a Financial Advisor for BC Credit Unions. Pat has served on Summerland’s Action Fest board for several years. She loves to swim year around, and walk throughout our beautiful town. |
Randy Boras - Director & Volunteer Property Manager
Randy is a professional civil engineer and planner. He grew up in Southern Alberta but spent many summers in the beautiful Okanagan. He has over 30 years as a municipal engineering consultant, helping grow the firm across Western Canada as a partner, manager and board member. Randy has designed and managed many projects that helped improve accessibility: on roads, on sidewalks, in buildings and more. In 2016 the beautiful Okanagan drew him and his wife Lyse back again, this time to live in Penticton where he is semi-retired and she is a successful landscape painter. Randy has served on numerous City committees and advisory groups, and most recently was appointed to the Accessibility Task Force. In his spare time, he enjoys carpentry, cycling, kayaking, and hiking the amazing trails of the south Okanagan with his wonderful wife, and visiting their two grown children abroad. |
Ken Rae - Director
My family and I moved to Summerland in 1977 and quickly became enamoured with the area. In addition to farming a small orchard I worked in the construction industry for 45+ years; holding a number of positions within that sector. I feel fortunate to have volunteered in a number of organizations which included The Summerland Kinsmen Club, The Summerland Golf Club, Parkdale Place Housing Society, Softball B.C., The Summerland Youth Centre Society, and The Summerland Hospital Care Auxiliary. As a new Director in 2024, I welcome the challenge to work and move forward with The Agur Lake Camp Society. The Camp has a tremendous history and I hope to be a part of its continued success. |
Joel Raitt - Director
Joel grew up in Summerland and has recently moved back with his wife who is expecting to be closer to family. He's owned his own business for the last 10+ years and is mostly focused online in fun niches like cycling, golf, wine and fishing - all things he enjoys. Joel loves the Summerland life, being outdoors and thinks it should be accessible for everyone. |
Patti Biggs - Director
Patti has been in Summerland for 32 years. She enjoyed the last 27 years working for Interior Health as a Nursing Unit Coordinator in various departments. The last 20 years were spent in the Heart and Kidney Transplant Clinic and has recently retired. She has two grown sons, one here in Summerland and the other in Grande Prairie, Alberta. She spends a lot of time in northern Alberta to be close to her seven year old grandson. She loves to hike with her lovely dog, Maple on a daily basis up Giants Head Mtn and on other awesome trails. When not hiking, she enjoys working out, Yoga, biking, kayaking and travelling. |
Jill Kelland - Director
Jill currently splits her time between Summerland and Edmonton and has done so since her retirement in 2020. She has a Masters Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and worked for 20 years as a Recreation Therapist in a mental health setting before moving to management with Alberta Health Services. The last 15 years of her career were spent developing rehabilitation and supported housing programs for people experiencing mental illness, addiction and homelessness. While working as a Recreation Therapist she took hundreds of clients to camps similar to Agur Lake and saw first hand the transformative impact spending time outdoors enjoying adventure and nature had on people. She looks forward to working with other Board members to continue to grow and develop the Auger Lake Camp in a sustainable and inclusive way. |
